Hacienda Masini is favored with optimal conditions for producing the world’s finest coffees, including cloud-wrapped elevations ranging 2200’ to 3010’ and protected microclimates formed by ideal slopes, aspects, and shade. The farm is an agro-ecological system, with agroforestry coffee, cacao, and citrus intermixed with protected spaces and corridors for conservation and research.

Specialty-Grade Coffee

Hacienda Masini’s ideal environment, carefully chosen varietals, and amazing workers produce exceptional coffees. Recently, the farm’s coffee scored 80+ points in Puerto Rico’s Tazo de Oro Competition for Coffee Quality, demonstrating its excellence, and earning it Specialty status.

While Hurricane Maria destroyed most of the farm’s coffee, some historic varietals, including Caturra, Typica, and Bourbon, survived and have been propagated for replanting. Hacienda Masini is committed to reestablishing Puerto Rican varietals and availability in Specialty Coffee industry and culture, while remaining close to local communities and markets in Puerto Rico.

 
 

Island-Wide Resilient Systems

Puerto Rico’s island biogeography has evolved a rich variety of endemic species that are threatened by habitat fragmentation and climate change. Efforts like the Bosque Modelo are conserving and connecting large patches of habitat in order to support critical endemic species and island-scale migration opportunities.
